In Richard’s blog, he introduced a recent new house type called micro-flats. It’s usually sized around 15-25 sqm and within micro-flats community, all public facilities such as library, lounges, café and restaurants are easy to access for residences. The existing of micro-flats could solve the problem about the high-density of urban areas. It’s undeniable that with the development of society, there is no much space for new residential area with low prices in city center. So micro-flats could fit into high-density area in a smart and efficient way.

And micro-flats are suitable for these young professionals and graduates. Because most of them are single, so small size flat is enough for them. And meanwhile, they don’t have enough money to buy a house or even rent a regular flat. So affordable micro-flats are best choice for them. What’s more, micro-flats are often located in city center, so they have a chance to stay there and work in there.

Micro-flats could also solve another problem: social isolation. When people live in their own individual house, they don’t have many chances to meet and know each other. Most of them don’t know their neighborhoods. However, in Micro-flats, residents could easily meet and know others when they are using public facilities such as library or entertainment rooms which could reduce social isolation and increase their social bonds. In another word, they know each other in a more efficient way.
